Sequim School Levy Passes!

We are thrilled to inform you the Sequim School levy has passed! We are grateful to all of you for your hard work and support.  This wonderful result would not have been possible without you!  We also thank the Sequim voters who carefully considered and approved the measure.  This is a great evening for our students, our schools, and our community.

Olympic Medical Center Formally Endorses Sequim School Levy!!

KNOW THE PROPOSED LEVY FACTS!

Emails are circulating throughout the county urging Sequim voters to reject the upcoming school levy, claiming the levy will increase property taxes by 73-98% if it passes.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!   The correct facts are set forth below.

Please review the correct information before you vote.

Ballots will be mailed Wednesday, January 20.

·         Local school levy taxes are only a portion of your total tax bill.

The proposed school levy will increase your total tax bill:

o        2.5% in year 1,

o        4.9% in year 2,

o        7.5% in year 3.

Far less than the 73% claimed by levy opponents!

Let’s put that in perspective:

Sequim property owners are currently paying 57% less school levy tax than the average taxpayer in the state of Washington.

Even in Year 3 of the proposed levy, Sequim property owners will still be paying 21% less school levy tax than the average taxpayer in the state of Washington.

·         If the levy passes, average school taxes will increase about $50 per year for a home with an assessed value of $250,000.

o        Current levy =  $192.50

o        Proposed levy 2010 - 2011 =   $245.00

o        Proposed levy 2011 - 2012 =   $297.50

o        Proposed levy 2012 - 2013 =   $350.00

·         The current state average for a home with an assess value of $250,000 is $447.50.

·         Port Angeles taxpayers with a home with an assessed value of $250,000 pay  $565.00!

·         State and federal funding is expected to decrease.  The proposed levy will increase your tax bill but the overall school budget will remain the same because of the anticipated decrease in revenue.

·         If the levy does not pass, Sequim schools will face cuts up to $4.2 million.  With a total budget of $24 million, this would be devastating for our schools and our community!

Get the facts, know the facts, share the facts!  We need you to help combat the campaign of  misinformation.

Please make SURE to get your Ballots Mailed IN!!!!!!
